What are common breast-feeding problems?

Exclusive breastfeeding (meaning giving only breast milk and no formula or other foods) is widely recommended for approximately the first six months of life. After this, doctors recommend continuing to breastfeed for at least the first year, in addition to introducing complementary solid foods. Many people choose to breastfeed beyond the first year, and some of the benefits continue during this time.

While it’s unlikely you’ll encounter all these pitfalls, don't expect complete smooth sailing, either. Most women experience some breastfeeding discomfort and one or two problems along the way; some experience more (although a few lucky ones do nurse without a single holdup).
