PITYRIASIS ALBA

What is Pityriasis Alba?

It is also known as Tinea alba

It is a common, benign (non-cancerous) skin disorder condition first characterized by red, scaly patches.

It is a skin disorder that mostly affects children and young adults.

Pityriasis alba is common worldwide with a prevalence in children of around 5%.

Pityriasis alba mainly affects children and adolescents aged 3 to 16 years, but can occur in older and younger people.

It affects boys and girls equally.

The hypopigmentation of pityriasis alba is more prominent, and the condition perhaps more common, in dark skin compared to white skin.

Causes of Pityriasis alba

The cause of pityriasis alba is unknown.

It often occurs with dry skin and atopic dermatitis.

It often presents following sun exposure, perhaps because tanning of surrounding skin makes affected areas more prominent.

Some genetic disorders are also believed to cause cutaneous hypopigmentation (loss of skin colour). This can happen when melanocytes, the cells that produce the skin pigment melanin, have lower activity. Melanin makes the skin darker.

They may appear on the:

  • face, which is the most common place

  • upper arms

  • neck

  • chest

  • back

Symptoms of Pityriasis Alba

People with pityriasis alba get round, oval, or irregularly shaped patches of pale pink or red skin. The patches are usually scaly and dry.

  • Pale pink or red spots may fade into light-coloured patches after several weeks.

  • These patches usually clear up within a few months, but they can last for several years in some cases.

  • They’re more noticeable in the summer months when the surrounding skin becomes tan.

  • This is because the pityriasis patches don’t tan.

  • The light patches are also more noticeable in people with darker skin.

Role of Homoeopathy in Pityriasis alba

As in few cases pityriasis alba self-recovers within a limiting time, if it does recovers then homoeopathy comes into play.

Pityriasis Alba has been permanently cured with homoeopathic medicines at BHRAMA MADHURYA HOMOEOPATHY clinic with the customised homoeopathic medicines for individual patient selected by the doctors.

It removes the patches & helps in removal of the spots & helps in bringing back the normal pigmentation of the skin.
